Football

Football, in its most common usage, refers to a team sport played between two teams, typically consisting of eleven players each, where the objective is to score goals by getting a ball into the opposing team’s net. The sport is known as soccer in some countries, particularly in the United States and Canada, to distinguish it from American football.

Football is played on a rectangular field, commonly referred to as a pitch, with a goal at each end. Players primarily use their feet to control and move the ball, although they may use their bodies except for their arms and hands (with the exception of the goalkeepers, who can use their hands within a specific area).

The game is governed by a set of rules known as the Laws of the Game, which dictate various aspects of play, including game duration, offside rules, and fouls. Football is one of the most popular sports globally, with millions of participants and fans. It is known for its significant cultural and social impact, as well as for major international competitions such as the FIFA World Cup, which captures global attention and showcases the sport at the highest level.
