Hay Fever

Hay fever, also known as allergic rhinitis, is an allergic reaction that primarily affects the nasal passages. It occurs when the immune system overreacts to allergens in the environment, commonly pollen from trees, grasses, and weeds. Symptoms of hay fever include sneezing, runny or stuffy nose, itchy eyes, throat, or nose, and general fatigue. These symptoms typically arise during specific seasons when pollen counts are high, hence the name “hay fever,” which historically referred to the symptoms occurring during hay harvesting season. While hay fever is not caused by an actual fever, it can significantly impact the quality of life due to its associated discomfort and can lead to other health issues, such as sinusitis or asthma. Treatment options include antihistamines, nasal corticosteroids, and avoidance of allergens.
