Rugby

Rugby is a team sport that originated in England in the early 19th century. It is played between two teams, typically of 15 players each (in rugby union) or 13 players (in rugby league), on a rectangular field with goalposts at each end. The objective of the game is to score points by carrying, passing, or kicking the ball to touch it down in the opponent’s in-goal area, known as a try, or by kicking the ball through the goalposts for a conversion, penalty, or drop goal.

Rugby is characterized by its physicality, strategic play, and continuous movement, often involving tackling and the contest for possession of the ball. The sport has various formats, including sevens (seven players per team) which is played in shorter matches, and touch rugby, which emphasizes non-contact play. Rugby’s laws are governed by World Rugby, and it has a significant following worldwide, with major tournaments such as the Rugby World Cup showcasing the sport on an international level.
